Ask For Help

November 27, 2017

Things I know I need to do:

Ask for help.

Things I don’t do:

Ask for help.

It’s a funny thing, isn’t it? No matter how many times we learn this lesson—no matter how good we feel and how many wonderful things happen when we do set our ego aside—we seem to forget.

We seem to think we should be able to do it all on our own. We should be able to get from where we are to where we want to be all on our own. We should be able to drive, navigate, course correct, and all the other road trip metaphors… all on our own.

Should, should, should.

We glorify the self-made.

The irony, of course, is that no one is self-made. Everyone has help. And that help comes in many forms from many people.

Ownership doesn’t mean going it alone.

Responsibility doesn’t mean single-handedly.

The change you want to make? It doesn’t happen in a vacuum.

Ask for help.
