Makers Inspiration #3
Izziyana Suhaimi creates some of the most beautiful embroidery I’ve ever seen, mixing a traditional craft with modern mediums and subject matter. The above piece, Friends to Keep You Warm was a collaboration with L’ILE AUX ASHBY in 2012. I like the idea of experimenting with embroidery on sketch and think it would make a great gift or framed addition to any room.
Hand dyed silk, gorgeous. That’s all I really need to say isn’t it? This scarf featuring Galileo’s sketches is made to order by Canadian line Scout & Catalogue. Personally, I love the idea of looking to science or math for pattern inspiration.
Mimi Jung quit her day job in her mid twenties to bring us art through Brook & Lyn, thank goodness. This wall hanging uses palm tree bark and cotton yarn on a copper rod to create a beautiful marriage of textures. I actually just started weaving a wall hanging myself (great way to work through a yarn stash) and her style definitely inspires me. If you’re looking for woven inspiration via instagram do yourself a solid and follow @brookandlyn and @houseofmaryanne.
