Makers Inspiration #2
“I believe that true innovation happens where different disciplines converge.” In her collection, Human vs Technology, Larissa Zemke experiments with laser engraving on leather to create this stunning collar. You can see the design process behind her works on her Cargo Collective website. The girl makes some pretty incredible stuff.
I discovered Amy Sia on Society 6 (if you’ve never heard of it…what are you waiting for). I instantly fell in love with her bright watercolour prints, particularly this one called Electric Haze. I’m thinking of buying it as an iPhone case. Amy is a London based luxury textile and accessory designer.
Again, i’m all over this disciplines converging thing. Coralie Bonnet, a UK based textile designer who graduated from Central Saint Martins with a MA in Textile Futures, likes to experiment “embroidering any material or surface she can get her hands on.” In this series titled The Wood Project she embroidered on birch plywood using wool, cotton and polyester. She does some other rad stuff like Graffiti Embroidery (think intricate yarn bombing) which you can check out on her website.
Finally, since i’m clearly obsessed with textiles this week, here’s a crochet sweater dress i’ve been swooning over. Designed by New York Based Ann Yee and available for purchase on Of A Kind, I love the combination of textures and sophisticated yet casual vibe. Something like this would probably be fairly simple to crochet or knit yourself.
