1931 Children’s Book Illustrations
I love finding these books and story clippings that belonged to my Nana when she was young, the illustrations are so beautiful. It’s not the typical mid century (is that right?) illustrations that have become so popular again lately, they’re a little…softer? I’m not sure how to best articulate it, but I really, really like it.
I’ve shared pictures from one of my Nana’s colouring books before, check that out if you’re into this sort of thing!
This rags book from 1929 has seen some rough years of transport and storage (irony of the name not lost on me), but I had to show the front and inside cover. It looks like someone hand drew each book individually, it feels so far from mass produced.
Looking through this Bugs book I’m struck by how differently children viewed their belongings 80+ years ago as apposed to today. I mean look at the condition of this book, and this was a well used book. Toys weren’t disposable, and you didn’t have a hundred of them, they were handled with care and treasured.
Just something for us to think about…
